THE PRIMACY OF PREACHING
ACTS 2:14
The Model Church - Lesson
#4
What is preaching?
What are some the different types of preachers
you have heard?
How important is preaching? Why?
In your opinion, what are the qualities contained
in good preaching?
The Amercian Heritage Dictionary defines primacy
as "The
state of being first or foremost."
In our text Peter is about
to preach a sermon. The occasion is the Birthday of the Church, the day when the
Holy Spirit Baptized and filled the Body of Christ.
The Church was and is built
on the preaching of God's Word. Preaching has always been important to
God! While some churches today try to
minimize preaching, we need to see its primacy in God's overall plan.

Mark 16:15 - And he said unto them, Go ye
into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Romans 1:14-17 - I am debtor both to the
Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. [15] So, as
much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at
Romans 10:13-17 - For whosoever shall call upon
the name of the Lord shall be saved. [14] How then shall they call on him in
whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they
have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? [15] And how shall
they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet
of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
[16] But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath
believed our report? [17] So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the
word of God.
1 Corinthians 1:23-25 - But we preach Christ
crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But
unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and
the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the
weakness of God is stronger than men.
1 Corinthians 2:1-5 - And I, brethren, when I came to
you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the
testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus
Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in
much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of
man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith
should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
2 Corinthians 4:5 - For we preach not ourselves,
but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
2 Timothy 4:2 - Preach the word; be instant in
season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and
doctrine.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 - All scripture is given by
inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be
perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Romans 15:4 - For whatsoever things were
written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and
comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
1 Peter 3:15 - But sanctify the Lord God in
your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you
a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
