VICTORY IN JESUS
THE PROOF - If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above,
where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
THE PREFERENCE - Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
THE PREMISE - For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
THE PROMISE - When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear
with him in glory.

Colossians 3:1-4
A DAILY OUTLOOK
How we view things will determine our behavior. If we have a daily perspective as described
in these verses, our outlook for each day and for eternity will be good
OUR DEVOTION - Vss. 1-2 - We are to seek the things of
God.
OUR DEATH - Vs. 3 - See Romans 6:1-4 and Galatians
2:20.
OUR DESTINY - Vs. 4 - We are looking forward to the
coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. See 1 John 3:2-3

Colossians 3:1-9
HEAVENLY MINDED =
EARTHLY GOOD!
You've probably heard
the expression, "He's so Heavenly minded that he's no earthly good."
Indeed there are people
who seem to be so religious that they have no practical value here on earth.
This kind of Heavenly mindedness, is not what the Bible teaches. When a person is
truly Heavenly minded, he will live out his Christianity in such a way that he
will do much earthly good.
THE FACTS - Vs. 1
We are risen with Christ because we died with Christ. (See
Galatians
Christ sits on the right
hand of God. He is in control.
THE FOCUS - Vss. 1-2
We are to seek things
above, the things of Christ.
We are to seek things
above, not the things of this earth.
THE FUNERAL - Vs. 3, 5-9
When Christ died on the
cross I died with Him. Vs. 3
Therefore, I should put
to death the things of the old life. Vss. 5-9
When I do this, and go on
to put on the new man in Christ, my life will certainly show earthly good.
(Vss. 10)
THE FUTURE - Vs. 4
When Christ appears in
glory, we appear with Him. This motivates us to live for our Savior now!

Colossians
3:1-9
HEAVENLY
THINKING = HEAVENLY LIVING.
We will live
in a higher realm if we think in a higher realm.
How we think
will effect how we live. If we think
heavenly thoughts, we will translate them into heavenly living. When we think
with a Heavenly perspective, we will live with a Heavenly perspective.
In our text
we find a very important principle for us to consider, "Heavenly thinking equals
heavenly living."
THE FACTS - Vs. 1
There are two
facts we need to consider:
1. We are risen with Christ because we died with Christ.
Notice the
word "if" here. That word would be better translated
"since".
There's no
doubt in Paul's mind.
We are risen with Christ.
Romans
6:3-4 - Know ye not, that so
many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was
raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk
in newness of life.
We are risen with Christ
because we died with Christ.
We are risen with Christ
because we were buried with Christ.
We are risen with Christ and
that means that just as the Lord Jesus had victory over sin and the grave so do
we.
We will live forever, and we don't have to live in sin
now. We are risen
with Christ!
The day I died with Christ I died to sin's power over
me. I began a resurrected victorious life that gives the power to be victorious
over sin. I don't have to listen to sin
anymore, although I can chose to. I am risen with
Christ and the risen Christ lives inside of me, according to Galatians 2:20.
I am
crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me:
and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God,
who loved me, and gave himself for me.
THE FACTS:
1. We are risen with Christ because we died with Christ. (See
Galatians 2:20 and Romans 6:1-14)
2. Christ
sits on the right hand of God.
He is in
control. Ephesians 1:18-23
Now because
we were crucified with Him, buried with Him, and resurrected with Him, that
also means we are also seated with Him.
This is our position. This is our
rank. This is where we belong.
Ephesians 2:6
- And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places
in Christ Jesus:
We live in
the sphere of God's influence where Christ reigns.
We are not of
this world, we are of the world where Christ is
preeminent!
We are where
Christ is! Christ is seated in glory! We are there too!
THE FOCUS - Vss. 1-2
We are to
seek things above, the things of Christ.
If we are not
of this world, we should seek the things of the world we are part of.
Our focus is
to be on Christ and His preeminence.
Our focus is
to be on Christ and the things of God. Matthew 6:33
When we seek the Kingdom we seek the King!
When we seek the Kingdom we seek to obey the King.
When we seek
the Kingdom we seek to learn from the King.
When we seek
the Kingdom we seek the Kings authority and power in
our lives.
We are to
seek things above, the things of Christ.
We are to
seek things above, not the things of this earth.
We are to set
our minds on things above, not on things of the earth.
We are to
think Heaven and heavenly things.
THE FUNERAL - Vs. 3, 5-9
When Christ
died on the cross I died with Him. Vs. 3
Our lives are
now hid with Him in God.
When we are
hid in Christ, we are eternally secure.
When we are
hid in Christ, we are safe now.
When we are
hid in Christ, we can not be touched by sin and death.
Vs. 5 – The
sins listed in this verse are basically sexual and sensual in nature.
Vss. 6-7 - These are the things that God will
judge. No child of God should be involved in these things. These are things of
the past life. We lived in them previously when we were not saved, but should
no part of them now.
Some will
say, "Well that's no so bad, I don't have a moral problem.”
But there's
more in Vss. 8-9. These verses show us some basic actions that no child of God
should be in bondage to.
We are to put
to death the old bad habits.
THE FUTURE - Vs. 4
When Christ
appears in glory, we appear with Him. This motivates us to live for our Savior
now!
1 John 2:2-3 - Beloved,
now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we
know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as
he is.And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is
pure.

Colossians 3:12-17
IT PAYS TO ADVERTISE
My son, David, is currently working as a manager in an
Italian Restaurant. The restaurant has
been mostly take out and delivery, but has recently added a dinning room. He tells me that the dining
room is not paying for itself. What is needed? Advertisement, so people know
it's there.
There is a lost and dying world which needs the
message of Christ.
We, who are Christians, are to advertise the reality
of our salvation by acting in a Godly manner.
The more people see the reality of Christ in us, the more they will want
salvation.
PREPARE Vss. 12-14
Here is a list of qualities that each Christian should
"put on".
PERMIT Vss. 15-16
"Let the peace of God rule in your
hearts..." Vs. 15
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you
richly..." Vs. 16
PERFORM Vs. 17

Colossians 3:17&23
CODE OF HONOR
Many years ago I was a Boy Scout. Each Boy Scout was confronted with, what I
would call, a code of Honor. There were not rigid
rules, but guidelines for behavior. There was:
The Scout Motto - "Be prepared."
The Scout Law - "A scout is trustworthy, loyal,
helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean
and reverent."
The Scout Oath - "On my honor, I will do my best
to do my duty to God and my country; to obey the scout law; to help other
people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and
morally straight."
Other organizations have similar guidelines, or codes
of honor for their members to follow. As
Christians, we too, have what we might call a
"code of honor"
found in our text. Our code of honor is to:
1. DO ALL IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS Vs. 17
That means we do it with His approval.
That means we do it in His authority. He has
authorized us to behave the way we are behaving.
If we do not have His approval and /or authority, we
need to change our behavior.
2. DO ALL GIVING THANKS TO GOD Vs. 17
1 Thessalonians 5:18
3. DO ALL HEARTILY FOR THE LORD Vs 23
