Matthew 10:2
LEADERS AND LOVERS
The first four apostles that Matthew says Jesus chose, turned out to include two leaders and two lovers.
PETER LED THE CHURCH - See Acts 1 & 2 and other
Acts passages for details. He was not
the first pope, but he was the first significant leader.
ANDREW LED THE CHRISTLESS - Andrew was always bringing
someone to Jesus. See John 1:40-42,
6:8-9,
JAMES PRACTICED LOVE TO THE MAX - Acts 12:1-2 - He
loved Christ by giving his life as a martyr.
JOHN PREACHED LOVE TO THE MAX - 1 John 3:11-18, 4:7-11
The phrase "to the max" means to the maximum
point. James and John did as much as they could to practice and preach love.

SPECIAL
Jesus sent the twelve
disciples out to do ministry.

At this time before
Jesus went to the cross, Jesus' ministry was to the "lost sheep of
The disciples,
therefore were not yet sent to the Gentiles or Samaritans. That changed when

PRACTICE OF MINISTRY -
Vss. 7-8
They were to preach that
the
Freely they had received,
they were to freely give. This is a good
point for us today. We have received
freely received God's grace. We should freely share God's grace.
PROVISION FOR MINISTRY -
Vss. 9-11
The people of
PRECAUTIONS FOR MINISTRY
- Vss. 12-20
Peace was to be on the
homes that received the disciples' ministry. Vss. 12-13a
The disciples were to
reject those who rejected their ministry. Vss. 13b-15
The disciples were to be
"wise as serpents" and harmless as doves. Vs. 16
The disciples were to be
prepared to face persecution. Vss. 17-18
The disciples were not
to be afraid what they would say. The Spirit of God would provide the words.

THE HARVEST
Our Lord shows his burden for the lost,
and one of our responsibilities in bringing people to Christ.
COMPASSION Vs. 36
The Lord Jesus had compassion of the multitudes
because they were
Susceptible - faint
Scattered
Shepherdless
COMMENTARY Vs. 37
The harvest is great but the workers are few.
COMMAND Vs 38
Pray for laborers. As we pray, don't be surprised that
God calls some of us to be missionaries.
