SECURING VICTORY

Israel was going to enter the Promised Land.

THE PURGE OF THE LAND – Vss. 1-5 – The enemy was to be totally destroyed

THE PURPOSE FOR INHERITANCE – Vss. 6-8 – God was showing His love to Israel

THE PROMISES OF BLESSING – Vss. 9-15 – Obedience will bring God’s blessings

ENJOY THE PRIVILEGES – Vs. 6

Deuteronomy 7:1-11

BEGINNING A NEW LIFE

The children of Israel were going into the Promised Land. God had set them free from Egypt, and after 40 years of wandering in the wilderness they would begin a new life in a new land. As Christians, we have left the bondage of sin, and shouldn't wander, but settle into a new life in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). The instructions Israel was given for new life in the land also apply to us concerning our new lives in Christ.

REMOVAL OF THE OLD - Vss. 1-5

Because of the bad influence the people of the land and their idols were to be destroyed.

We should remove all things in our lives that are not pleasing to Christ! Of course, we are talking about killing anyone, but to get away from detrimental influences.

REASONS FOR THE NEW - Vss. 6-8

We should act in a new way because:

1. We are a holy people. Vs. 6, 1 Peter 2:9

2. The Lord loves us. Vss. 7-8a, John 3:16

3. The Lord has delivered us. Vs. 8b Ephesians 2:1

4. The Lord has redeemed us. Vs. 8b, 1 Peter 1:18-19

REPAYMENT FOR BEHAVIOR - Vss. 9-10

The Lord rewards us according to our behavior.

REMINDER TO OBEY - Vs. 11

Deuteronomy 7:1-16

SETTLING IN

Moses is giving instructions to the Children of Israel for entering the Promised Land.

CONQUEST OF THE LAND - Vss. 1-5

Israel was to conquer the land completely and destroy everything that would influence them to behave as the inhabitants of the land behaved.

COMPASSION OF GOD - Vss. 6-8

Israel was chosen of God.

Israel was reminded that they were not blessed because of their merit but because of God's great love.

COVENANT WITH ISRAEL - Vss. 9-16

Israel was to behave as God's covenant people.

They were to obey God's law.

Obedience would bring physical blessing.

Deuteronomy 7:16-26

CLAIMING THE LAND

ASSIGNMENT – Vs. 16

The people of the land were to be destroyed and their God’s were not to be served.

ASSURANCE – Vss. 17-21

God would give the victory.

ACTION – Vss. 22-24

Israel would fight. God would act.

ABHORRENCE – Vss. 25-26

The Gods of the land were to be detested and destroyed.
