SOUND FAMILIAR?
As
we study the prophets, we notice that many of the problems that
A TENDER GOD - Vs. 2
This
is a courtroom scene! The heavens and earth are called into witness. God tenderly
raised Israel, and
A TREACHEROUS PEOPLE - Vss. 3-8
They
had forgotten - Vs. 3 - The ox and donkey know who take care of them.
They
had forsaken - Vs. 4 -
They had fallen - Vss. 5-6 - They were under judgment, being disciplined, and still didn't respond. Look at all the things that have happened to this country, and yet people will not repent.
They
had foreign influence - Vss. 7-8 -
A TINY REMNANT - Vs. 9
The
Lord left

WE HAVE REVIVAL WHEN:
1. WE HEED GOD'S CALL TO REPENTANCE
A. Confess (Wash you, and make you clean) - Vs. 16, 1 John 1:9
B. Forsake (…Put away the evil of your doings…) - Vs. 16
C. Learn (…to do well…) - Vs. 17
2. WE ACCEPT GOD'S INVITATION FOR CLEANSING - Vss. 18-20

THE REVIVAL PATH
REPENT - "Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes;"
REFRAIN - "cease to do evil;"
REEVALUATE - "Learn to do well; seek judgment,"
RELIEVE - "relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow."

CALL TO REMOVAL (OF DIRT)
Isaiah 1:16 - Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
CALL TO RIGHTEOUSNESS
Isaiah 1:17 - Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
CALL TO REASON – Vss. 18-20
Isaiah 1:18-20 - Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. [19] If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: [20] But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

VERBS FOR REVIVAL
Verbs are action words. For there to be a revival in a person, a church, or a nation, there needs to be action! If the many action words are followed in this passage there will be revival! Consider the:
VERBS OF PENANCE Vs. 16
wash and make clean
put away and cease
VERBS OF PERFORMANCE Vs. 17
learn, seek, relieve, judge, plead
VERBS OF PARTICIPATION Vs. 18
come, reason
VERBS OF PURPOSE Vss. 19-20
We will be "willing and obedient" or we will "refuse and rebel".
One set of verbs or the other reveals the purpose of my life!
