CHRISTIAN CHARACTER CLINIC
WEEK #9 – LOVING AS GOD LOVES – LOVE (Last of series)
2 Peter 1:5-7 - And
beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue
knowledge; [6] And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to
patience godliness; [7] And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly
kindness charity.
1 John 4:7-8 - Beloved,
let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born
of God, and knoweth God. [8] He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is
love.
1 John 4:10-11 - Herein
is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be
the propitiation for our sins. [11] Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also
to love one another.
·
Let’s list all the ways we can think of that God loves
us.
·
What is the ultimate way that God showed his love for
us?
·
What proof should we show that we are the children of
God?
·
What are some of the ways Christians display a lack of
love?
Peter concludes his list of Christian
Character traits with the ultimate quality that a Christian should have,
charity or love. The word used for charity here is agape, the highest form of
love. It is the same word used to describe
God’s Love. Tonight we want to look at
those qualities of love based on 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 - Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity
vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, [5] Doth not behave itself unseemly,
seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; [6] Rejoiceth
not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; [7] Beareth all things, believeth
all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. [8] Charity never faileth:
but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues,
they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
